Welcome to day twenty-five in the 33 Paintings in 33 Days Project of Alaskan artist Nikki Kinne and Wisconsin artist Helen Klebesadel.
Nikki’s twenty-fifth painting is a gesture painting from the noon Sound Bites performances at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. Bassist musician Paul Sharpe performed a piece entitled ‘BB Wolf’, inspired the graphic novel and Blues CD, BB Wolf and the Three LPs, by JD Arnold. The novel is a reverse folk tale that takes a position revealing that the wolf in the Three Little Pigs is deeply misunderstood.
Nikki was drawn to Paul’s expressions and physical actions in the performance of the piece. Seeing him perform was observing “art upon art.” Nikki captured his likeness, the physical action of his performance, and the experience of hearing him play through gesture and mark. Nikki describes this painting as being more about expressing what she was experiencing than reporting what she was seeing.
It is high summer in Wisconsin. Summer wouldn’t be summer without at least one canoe trip. I took a nice long day-trip with friends on the Wisconsin River this week ( a trip which will inspire many paintings to come.) This little watercolor was inspired by the back channels and byways that are sometimes connected through tributaries to the river. Some of the backwater marshes are spring fed slues that are filled with yellow or white water-lilies. Upon returning to my home in Madison I took advantage the sunken garden of our local botanical garden, Olbrich Gardens, to get another close-up look at water-lilies. I will be doing more watercolor paintings as we move trough the last third of our 33 paintings in 33 days Project.
Thank you for coming with us as we explore the world of a-painting-a-day inspired by the world around us.
My daily works for this project available for sale online in my Meylah shop here: http://meylah.com/HelenKlebesadel I post them each day after they are posted in the blog.

I’ve wondered all through this exercise, why 33?
Honestly Bev, we knew we were willing to commit to do this for a month and it just felt right to have two 3s next to each other to emphasize the mirroring of our two efforts. It just felt right.
And who would argue with success!! Just think, it you’d said 30 days, we’d all have missed 31, 32 and 33!!
Yes! As we move into the last week or so of this project it becomes clearer an clearer to me why some artists choose to make this a daily practice. Also, the regular touching base with Nikki has made this all the more special. I’m sure we will continue some kind of collaborative process as we move forward int the future. Thanks for following our creative journey here Bev.
